MMA announces candidates for Elections 2018

LAHORE: A total of 191 National Assembly candidates, 404 provincial assembly candidates and 35 women candidates would be contesting the general election on the ticket of the  Mutahidda Majlis e Amal (MMA), MMA president Maulana Fazlur Rehman, told a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday after a meeting of the MMA general council.

He was accompanied by the heads of the MMA parties including JI chief Senator Sirajul Haq, Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi, Prof. Sajid Meer, Allama Awais Shah Noorani.

The MMA chief announced schedule of countrywide meetings of the MMA. He said the MMA component parties would fully support the MMA candidates. He said that the list of the MMA candidates had been issued and the candidates would enter the election campaign with a complete  peace of mind renewed vigour and confidence. He stressed upon the candidates to conduct their election campaign with full force.

The MMA chief said that it was the responsibility of the care taker government to hold fair, free and transparent elections on schedule.  He said that it was the constitutional requirement to hold  elections on schedule. He also urged the political parties to comply with the election code of conduct and rules.

Replying to a question, Maulana Fazur Rehman said that the surveys regarding elections did not reflect the ground realities and were based on unseen factors.

He said that home work was essential to field consensus candidates of the religious alliance and this job had been completed. He said that the mass contact was being started also at central level, and  MMA public meetings would be held at Multan on July 13, at Rawalpindi on July 14, and in Karachi on July 15. He said that he and other parties heads would visit every nook and corner of the country.

He further said that the NAB and the courts had their own responsibility but they should not ignore the elections.

When a media man drew the MMA chiefs attention to PTI chairman Imran Khan’s remarks that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was like magnet who joined every government, Maulana Fazlur Rehman  replied that a magnet attracted other things and not was attracted to other things.
