ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) on Saturday suspended membership of 60 members for disobeying its directions regarding observing a strike announced  by the Islamabad Bar Council and the Pakistan Bar Council.

The ICHBA, on Friday, had also announced to boycott a ceremony held regarding oath-taking of the new judges at the Islamabad High Court.

The strike call was given against the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah’s decision to suspend the IHCBA Secretary Umair Baloch’s licence.

On Wednesday, at least four patients being treated at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) were died and Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan was manhandled after a violent protest by lawyers on the premises.

The under-treatment patients, stated to be in precarious condition, were left unattended by the hospital staff when the lawyers entered into the emergency ward of the facility. As a result, four of them breathed their last.

Police arrested over a dozen lawyers who also tried to kidnap the provincial information minister arrived at the hospital to settle the matter.
