Lt Gen (retd) Bilal Akbar appointed envoy to Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD: The government has changed its ambassador to Saudi Arabia and appointed Lieutenant General (retd) Bilal Akbar as the new ambassador.

According to a local newspaper, Raja Ali Ijaz served there for two years.

Now the ambassadors of both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have a military background, while Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al Maliki belongs to the Saudi Navy.

Diplomatic sources said that the appointment of Safra is a sign of strong ties between the two countries, now in addition to diplomacy, the two countries have to promote economic, military and investment.

Former Pakistan Army Chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif has been serving there in the military since 2017.
