KP lawmakers protest bears fruits as Govt ensures to solve problems of province within week

ISLAMABAD: Talks between Government and protesting members of  provincial assembly of KP in leadership of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak ended with assurance of federal government to solve the problems of KP within a week.

Federal Minister for Power and Energy Khawaja Asif hold talks with the protestors and it was agreed between both the sides to give one week time to the federal government to solve the grievances of the KP government.

The next rounds of talks will be held on Friday. Talking to media after the talks the CM KP said that all issues related to the province have been solved just notification is needed from the federal government.

Khawaja Asif said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor route issue will be solved on Wednesday in parliamentary meeting adding that power royalty issue has been almost solved.

Earlier, MPAs and ministers from KP led-by the CM  gathered outside the Parliament House and staged sit-in to protest over unfair distribution of power by the federal government.

The CM KP , Speaker KPK assembly Asad Qaisar, MNA Dr. Arif Alvi, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq and others were leading a large number of party lawmakers who marched from Khyber pakhtunkhwa House to the Parliament building.

However, the protestors were barred at entrance of the Parliament House where the protesters  attempted to cross security barriers, prompting brief scuffles between police and the protesters.

While addressing the protest sit-in, Pervez Khattak said almost all MPAs and ministers were protesting against change in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and loadshedding in KPK.

He said all political parties, except the PML-N, were united for rights of people of KP adding that federal government was selling cheap electricity to KP in expensive rates.

The CM expressed determination to continue the protest till acceptance of demands.

The protest was also joined lawmakers of Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP).
