ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world are observing Indian Republic Day, today, as Black Day to remind the world that India’s continued denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination is contrary to its claim of being a democratic republic.

Call for the strike has been given by given by almost all the Hurriyet leadership of Kashmir, reported KMS.

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “During the past seven decades, most of the political, economic and religious rights of people of Kashmir have been trampled upon by a country that claims to be biggest democracy in the world.”

The Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi and the General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Ramzan Khan in their separate statements in Srinagar, while urging the people to observe Black Day on January 26, appealed to the parents to desist from sending their children to participate in such functions.

The United Jihad Council (UJC) Chairman, Syed Salahuddin in a statement, while calling for the shutdown on the day, said, “The hollowness of Indian democracy has got exposed as fanatic organizations have been directly ruling the country. India has been using brute force in Kashmir. Youth are arrested and leadership is being detained in their houses. Whole Valley has been turned into a garrison,” Salahuddin added.

Mujahid Commander, Mushtaq Zargar said that without resolution of Kashmir dispute, the dialogue between India and Pakistan was a futile exercise. He requested traders to ensure complete shutdown on the day.
