KARACHI: Administration of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has forcedly stopped students to hold celebrations of Independence Day in a surprising move despite written permission given by vice chancellor.

The administration showed sudden reaction when students started decorating the varsity premises with balloons and flags bearing all the expenses.

Sources said the students received a written permission from vice chancellor but suddenly Dr. Irfan Ashraf reached the spot and threatened the students with severe consequences. The administration members tore down the flags and made desecration with Pakistani flag which forced students and teachers to disperse from the premises.

It is noteworthy to mention here that Vice Chancellor Dr. Tariq Rafi was also participated in the cake ceremony and posed photos with the students on the occasion.

JSMU administration raised questions in many circles over restricting Independence Day celebrations despite the other educational institutions were easily celebrating the August 14 with zeal and fervour.

Dow University slated three-day programme for the celebrations besides provision of funds for August 14 event. On the other hand, JSMU administration threatened the students and teachers to throw out them over participation in the event.
