KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engineer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has warned the authorities that JI would launch agitation as well as knock the door of judiciary, if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) remained fail to eliminate flaws from the existing voter lists.
He warned this on Saturday while addressing a crowded press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader said that the voter lists were carrying up to 25 percent bogus votes, while tens of thousands of due votes have not been placed in the lists.
He announced that a legal petition would be filed before the court, if the ECP remained fail to make the lists flawless.
He demanded of the concern authorities to revise the lists as per the data of NADRA, instead of taking cosmetic measures.
Engineer Naeem said that his party has been raising the issue of flawed voter lists since long as transparent and fair elections are impossible without flawless voter lists.
He recalled that the ECP had announced in September that the lists would be made accurate by October 10 and it had also announced to establish 278 display centers across the city, so as people could get their votes registered.
He said less than 20 centers were established and in all centers lists were not present as well as staff present at centers knows nothing regarding the voting lists.
The Karachi chief further said that the party delegation will write a letter to the concern authorities and would meet the ECP officials to get the issue resolved.
He demanded parliament to play its due role and made legislation in this regard.
