JI threatens agitation against shift of SBP offices to Lahore

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engineer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has vowed to launch a campaign against shifting of four of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)’s departments to Lahore.

Chairing a meeting of traders and industrialists, he termed the decision of shifting as illogical reiterated his demand to withdraw the decision. He said that the decision is quite injustice to the traders and industrialists based in Karachi.

The JI leader was of the view that Karachi is the economic hub and nerve of the country and produces upto 70 percent revenue for the country, while the government’s illogical and irrational decision would produce adverse impacts on the status of the city.

 He said that central offices of majority monitory institutions, banks and multinational companies are situated in Karachi while it is the only city with a functional port. He added that in such a scenario the decision should be withdrawn immediately.

Talking about the Sindh government’s decision to impose timings strictly, he hailed the decision but urged the government to take traders association on board before devising a strategy in connection with shops and markets.

The JI leaders said that the need of the hour is implementation of decision in letter and spirit. He urged the higher authorities to ensure that the decision would not open doors of corruption. A committee was also constituted on the occasion to devise a joint strategy in connection with the traders and industrialists’ issues.
