Court orders FIR registration in Malik Riaz blackmailing case

ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad has ordered police to file the a First Information Report (FIR) against people who allegedly blackmailed Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz.

Additional Session Judge Raja Khurram Ali during the hearing of the petition to file the case against the alleged blackmailers, ordered the police to file the FIR.

The petition was filed by Malik Riaz in which his lawyers Dr. Babar Awan stated that the blackmailers received Rs50 million and police didn’t file the FIR.

On the other hand police presented its concerns over the FIR.

Earlier, The Bahria Town Chairman accompanied by his lawyer Dr. Babar Awan told media that his client Malik Riaz had submitted documents and CCTV video from his office as evidence with the FIR.

It is reported that copy of the FIR contains information and evidence pertaining to Malik Riaz being blackmailed by three individuals.

Lt. Colonel (retd) Tariq Kamal, Dr. Shafiq and dismissed Colonel Khalid Rasheed are accused of blackmailing Mailk Riaz.

It states that the blackmailers have already been paid once and were seeking more money.

The blackmailers received Rs50 million on 28 June 2013 and assured that there would be no further blackmailing. The FIR further states that 15 days ago Colonel (retd) Tariq Kamal issued another threat.

The FIR was registered in Lohi Bher police station.
