Interior Ministry extends Rangers’ powers for another 77 days

ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry has issued a notification extending the powers of paramilitary Rangers in Karachi division for another period of 77 days on Monday.

The powers have been extended on the request of Sindh Home department.

Rangers launched an operation against militants and criminals in Karachi in 2013.

The federal cabinet had empowered Rangers to lead a targeted action with the support of police against criminals involved in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.

Sindh Rangers were granted special powers to arrest and conduct raids under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
