ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday ordered immediate removal of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Arif Usmani from office.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani announced the reserved verdict today.

The notification of appointment of Arif Usmani as President NBP dated January 12, 2019 was challenged in the court.

Arif Usmani was appointed President of the National Bank for three years. Earlier, Saeed Khan was the president of the National Bank, who was removed from his post by the government.

According to the petitioner, Arif Usmani’s appointment was not in line with the requirements of transparency. The petition said that the appointment of Arif Usmani violated the rules and SECP rules.

According to the rules, those who are appointed to this post must pass the fitness and proper test.
