IHC issues notice in petition against high prices of drugs

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has issued notice to federation, in a plea seeking direction for authorities to take immediate measure against high prices of life saving drugs.

A single-judge bench of Justice Athar Minallah also sought their comments within fortnights while hearing the petition moved by Waheed Mehmood Khan.

During the course of proceedings, Yasir Mahmood counsel for the petitioner, apprised the court that availability and access to cheaper life saving drugs/medicines is a fundamental right of every citizen under Article 9 of the Constitution.

This is the responsibility of the State to provide the best possible, facilities to the citizen by controlling the excessive increase in the prices of medicine, he added.

He prayed before the court to direct the respondents to explain what practical steps they have taken so far to check and control the excessive increase in the price of medicines.

After hearing the arguments, the bench issued notice to the respondents and adjourned the matter for two weeks.
