Hong Kong stocks open up, oil gains boost energy firms

HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares edged up in the first few minutes of trade Thursday, extending the previous two days’ gains with energy firms boosted by a rally in oil prices.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.15 percent, or 37.07 points, to 24,429.12.

But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.19 percent, or 6.17 points, to 3,235.14 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, lost 0.21 percent, or 4.19 points, to 2,015.20.
