Hong Kong stocks end morning higher

HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks ended the morning session on a high Friday, heading for a fifth-straight gain, following a Wall Street record and data showing China’s economy grew more than expected in April-June.

The Hang Seng Index added 0.62 percent, or 134.33 points, to 21,695.39 by the break.

But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged down 0.05 percent, or 1.64 points, to 3,052.38, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, eased 0.28 percent, or 5.80 points, to 2,039.13.
