Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks start week on a high

HONG KONG: Stocks in Hong Kong and Shanghai kicked on a positive note Monday extending gains from last week’s Federal Reserve statement on lowering its interest rate forecast this year.

The Hang Seng Index added 0.17 percent, or 35.89 points, to 20,707.52.

And in Shanghai the composite index gained 0.79 percent, or 23.31 points, to 2,978.46, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, rose 1.27 percent, or 23.40 points, to 1,860.61.
