Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks sink in morning session

HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares tumbled more than one percent in the morning session Wednesday, following steep losses in New York on worries about corporate earnings and an expected US interest rate hike before year’s end.

The Hang Seng index fell 1.09 percent, or 257.60 points, to 23,291.92 by the break.

And the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.32 percent, or 9.75 points, to 3,055.50, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, slipped 0.09 percent, or 1.75 points, to 2,041.94.
