MIRPUR: Heavy rain is threatening to spoil the Asia Cup T20 final between India and Bangladesh here tonight.

With just 1 hour to go before the start of the match (7 PM IST), rain, strong winds and a power outage were witnessed putting the title clash in danger of being a complete non-starter.

Former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden, who is part of the TV commentary team for the final, tweeted about the chaos prevailing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium ahead of the big match, “Crazy scenes here at Mirpur for the final of the #AsiaCupT20Final Wind, rain and chaos.”

India’s former batsman Aakash Chopra, who is also part of TV commentary line-up, wrote on his Twitter page, “Things changed rapidly…total blackout. #Mirpur #AsiaCup.” In another tweet, he said, “Lights back on but water water everywhere… #Mirpur #AsiaCupFinal.” If the match is washed out then both India and Bangladesh will share the spoils. There is no reserve day for the final.
