Ex-opening batsman Taufeeq Umar contracts coronavirus

Lahore: Taufeeq Umar, the Pakistan’s former opening batsman has contracted the coronavirus, a local TV reported here on Tuesday.

Speaking to Geo News, the former opening batsman said that he had got himself tested last night after feeling sick. The report came positive. However, the symptoms are not very severe, he added.

Umar said that he had isolated himself at his home and requested people to pray for his early recovery.

During his 14-year career, the opening batsman had played 22 ODIs and 44 Tests for Pakistan.

His career best was 234 runs against Sri Lanka in 2011 in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday (16:30) the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has reached 58,278 while 1,202 died in Pakistan.

After emergence of new cases, Sindh overtook Punjab with 23, 507 confirmed infections.

Over 13,000 patients have recovered so far in the country while 1,2,02 have lost their lives.
