EgyptAir flight crashes with 66 on board

The missing EgyptAir flight reportedly crashed off Greek island of Karpathos in Egyptian airspace on Thursday.

The news agency AFP quoting its sources, said At around 0029 GMT (3:29 am) when it was in Egyptian airspace, the plane disappeared from Greek radars… it crashed around 130 nautical miles off the island of Karpathos.”

On the other hand the director, Constantine Lyzerakos, said the plane was at 37,000 feet, traveling at 519 mph, and did not report any problem.

The director of Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority says air traffic controllers were in contact with the pilot of the EgyptAir flight as it passed through Greek airspace.

It is pertinent to mention here that an Egyptair plane heading to Paris to Cairo went missing soon after it took off from French capital’s Charles De Gaulle at 11:09pm local time on Wednesday.

It was supposed to arrive in Egypt at 3:05am local time. There were 59 passengers and 10 crew on board.

The airline tweeted: ‘An informed source at EGYPTAIR stated that Flight no MS804,which departed Paris at 23:09 (CEST),heading to Cairo has disappeared from radar.’

They added that the plane disappeared 80miles (10 minutes) before it was set to enter Egyptian airspace at 37,000ft.

Contact was lost with the plane at 02:45 Cairo time, 15 minutes before it was set to land.

Egyptair said they have sent out search and rescue teams.
