ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) on Friday said dope tests will be conducted of each and every bodybuilder before any district or national championship in order to cope with the menace of steroids and supplements that are used for fast muscle building.

Recently four national bodybuilders passed away including Matloob Haider, Muhammad Rizwan, Humayun Khurram and Hamid Ali.

According to reports use of steroids by bodybuilders causes heart enlargement and high blood pressure which leads to a sudden cardiac arrest.

Humayun, who had won titles of Mr Lahore, Mr Punjab and Mr Pakistan, recently secured a gold medal in the South Asian Bodybuilding Championship 2016. After his death another prominent bodybuilder Hamid Ali, nicknamed Gujju, died. Gujju was ex-Mr Punjab.

Talking to APP, Sheikh Farooq Iqbal, President PBF, said we have cancelled the registration of all bodybuilding clubs in the country after the sad incident. “Now we will be renewing the registration of those clubs whwhich will be submitting an Affidavit to us saying that their bodybuilders will not use any steroids of any illegal substance for fast muscle building,” he said.

Sheikh said to make this foolproof that bodybuilders are not using steroids or any illegal substance for growing their muscles, we will be ensuring that dope tests are conducted at all levels of every bodybuilder to stop this menace. “A meeting is also being held in this regard,” he said.
