LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Saturday that the country was being governed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“Petrol is costly, gas and electricity are too, because the minister himself is from the IMF,” she said in her statement.

The PML-N spokesperson said that after the minister, the governor of State Bank and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman would also be from the IMF.

Earlier, SBP Governor Tariq Bajwa and FBR chief Dr Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan were said to have been asked to step down from their posts.

Bajwa was asked to tender his resignation, which he forwarded to the PM Secretariat through the finance ministry, sources said, after Prime Minister Imran Khan sought his removal from the top post at the central bank.

They further said the federal government had also removed Khan as the FBR chairman, adding that the decision to do so had already been taken when Asad Umar was still serving as the finance minister.
