Commissioner appeals for religious harmony in Muharram

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday appealed from religious scholars and leaders to play their role for promoting mutual harmony among Muslims during Muharram.

‘The city administration, police and other institutes of the government should play their full role in observing Muharram with reverence and respect,’ he said while reviewing arrangements of Majalis and mourning processions and their security in a meeting.

Additional IG Police Mushtaq Mehr, DIG Traffic Dr Ameer Ahmed Sheikh, Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Sajjad Hussain Abbasi, all the deputy commissioners, representatives of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, K-Electric, all the district municipal corporations, fire brigade and health department were also present on the occasion.

‘Provision of fool-proof security should be ensured on this occasion.’

The management members of processions appreciated the timely holding of the meeting and pointed out different issues with suggestions for their resolution.

The commissioner directed the relevant organisations to take immediate measures for redressal of the complaints.

The meeting decided to strengthen coordination with the managements in all the areas and make arrangements in consultation with them.

‘Special arrangements of sanitation and lighting enroute the central procession and other processions should be made,’ the meeting decided.

It was also decided in the meeting that the damaged roads enroute processions should be repaired and wall-chalking removed.
