Citizens demand upgradation of damaged bridge near Bari Imam

ISLAMABAD: Citizens on Saturday demanded of the authorities concerned to start construction work on the blemished bridge near Bari Imam to facilitate the people residing around the area.

They said the bridge was broken from several sides which need proper repairing of the major cracks in the support pillars besides building protective cemented fence.

They said that due to poor condition of the bridge, citizens have to face several hardships as the bridge was continuously in the process of ruining.

Muhammad Ashraf, a local said that the bridge was the main link for localities of the area. He added the bridge has apparently completed its life.

He said due to this situation, there might chances of any serious incident which may lead to loss of several precious lives.

He asked to take measures for safety of citizens.

Another resident Zafar Hameed said that the bridge was the only link between the Bari Imam Colony and the University which should be duly taken care by the authorities concerned.

He was of the view that authorities can extend its life by providing protective cemented fence that has broken from several places and repairing the big cracks in the support pillars. He said that it was the longstanding demand of residents of the concerned area to reconstruct this bridge on emergency basis to protect lives of citizens.  When contacted Deputy Director, Directorate of Road Maintenance and Repair Work Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) said that the corporation workers will be directed to look after the bridge and it will also be repaired as soon as possible.—APP
