OTTAWA: Jahanzeb Malik, a Pakistani man  accused of plotting to bomb the U.S. Consulate and Toronto’s financial district will be deported to his native Pakistan, the Immigration and Refugee Board ruled Friday.

Reports in the Canadian media suggest that  Malik will not contest the decision and is now expected to be deported within the next several weeks.

In the meantime, he remains in detention at the Lindsay, Ont., jail.

In declaring Malik inadmissible on national security grounds, Immigration and Refugee Board member Andy Laut cited evidence from an undercover RCMP officer, who had befriended the 33-year-old flooring contractor.

Malik came to Canada from Islamabad in 2004 on a student visa to attend York University. He acquired permanent residency in 2009.

He is estranged from his wife in Canada, with whom he has two children. Malik was arrested in March for an alleged plot to bomb the U.S. consulate and other targets in Toronto.
