ABU DHABI: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has described the India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register for Citizens (NRC) as unnecessary.

She expressed these views in an interview with Gulf News here on Sunday.

Hasina said that we don’t understand why the Indian government had introduced these laws.

PM Sheikh Hasina is currently on a visit to the UAE to hold high-level meetings.

Last month, India had passed the controversial  Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 that allowed citizenship to all religious minorities except Muslims fleeing persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
