LAHORE: British Political Counselor Will Middleton called on the Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, at Mansoora on Tuesday and discussed with him the current international and regional situation and matters of bilateral interest.
He was accompanied by the head of the Internal Political team, Stephen Hill. JI deputy Secretary General Muhammad Asghar and chief of the JI Foreign Affairs, Abdul Ghaffar Aziz, were also present on the occasion.
The JI chief told the British diplomat that the Kashmir issue was the biggest hurdle in the regional peace. He said that as long as the Kashmir issue was not resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions, the clouds of a destructive war would continue hovering over the region. He further said that if India’s persistent provocations and firing at the Pakistan border led to a nuclear war between the two states, the neighbouring states too would not be safe.
Sirajul Haq said that the Kashmir issue was the left over part of the division of the Indo Pak subcontinent and had in fact been created by Britain itself. Therefore, it was the moral responsibility of Britain to play its key role in its resolution as would help fifteen million Kashmiris get freedom from India’s unlawful occupation.
Referring to the situation in Afghanistan, Sirajul Haq said that as long the US and NATO forces remained in the neighbouring country, peace in the region could not be restored. He therefore, said that the US should realize the ground realities and let the Afghan people decide their affairs. He wondered why the US should be worried about the future of Afghanistan.
Sirajul Haq told the British diplomat that the JI was the only political party in this country which was truly democratic. He said that the JI wanted political stability in the country and proper functioning of state institutions.
