Govt responsible for provision of education, health, transport facilities: Hafiz Naeem

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on Friday has demanded of the government to take the issue of Baba and Bhit islands up so as to mitigate their miseries.

He said that these islands have been neglected since long by the subsequent governments and as a result the dwellers of these islands have been facing immense problems.

He said that the people, living on these islands are also human and the government should address their issues accordingly.

The JI leader said that the governmental institutions have been adding outrageously to the problems of the people. Engr. Naeem said that the government of Sindh should provide basic facilities of health and education and potable water to the islands.

He demanded of the K-Electric and to withdraw illegal charges against the area people. He also demanded of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to restore supply of water to the two islands.

The JI leader asked the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to reconstruct the jeti as per the trust’s earlier statement. The KPT authorities had demolished a jetty earlier, saying that it would be replaced with a new one.

He expressed his sorrow and said that unfortunately, the water pipelines in the islands have been demolished while the area people have been using contaminated water, resulting in outbreaks of waterborne disease
