Australia comprehensively beat New Zealand by 208 runs in 1st Test

BRISBANE: Australia have beaten New Zealand by 208 runs in first Test played at Brisbane Cricket Ground on Monday.

New Zealand required another 361 runs on the last day of the test match with seven wickets in hand. Australian pacers bowled superbly as they restricted the visitors to 295.

Skipper Brandon McCullum played an outstanding knock of 80 but failed to win the game for his country. Kane Williamson continue his consistency scoring 59 for the side.

Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets for Australia while Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Star grabbed a wicket each for the side.

Earlier, Australian after bowling out Kiwis in first innings, set 504 runs target with David Warner scoring another century for the side. He made 116 while Joe Burns made 116. Skipper Steven Smith declaring the innings on 264 on loss of four wickets.

First innings: Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Usman Khawaja scored his maiden ton with 174 while David Warner smashed 163. Australia declared the innings on 556 with Adam Voges unbeaten 83.

New Zealand in replay were all out on 317 thanks to Kane Williamson’s 140 after top order collapse. Tom Latham made 47 for the side.

Starc picked up four wickets while Mitchell Johnson bagged three wickets in the game.
