Peshawar: At least 50 worshipers martyred and over 157 others injured in a suicide blast occurred in the Police Lines mosque here on Monday during Zuhr prayers.
According to rescue sources, the suicide explosion occurred inside a mosque located in Police Lines in Peshawar’s Saddar area. As a result, 28 worshippers martyred and over 100 injured.
The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where condition of several injured is critical. Sources said that 25 to 30 cops were injured the blast.
According to the rescue sources, the sound of the explosion was so intense that it was heard far away.
Police said that the blast was suicidal.
Sources said that the suicide bomber standing in first row blew himself as the congregational prayers started.
Prayer leader of the mosque was also martyred in the blast.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah speaking to media said that police were fighting with terrorists.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and others strongly condemned the suicide blast.
