NEW DELHI: In a reaction to the firing on Delhi’s anti-CAA protest, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi  vowed on Thursday that the protests will go on.

Owaisi took to Twitter and said: “It happened today, when we were remembering terrorist Godse’s murder of Gandhi. When students were going to march to mark the event. Such cowardice does not scare us. The protests will go on. This is now Godse v. Gandhi’s, Ambedkar’s & Nehru’s India. It’s easy to pick a side.”

Earlier in the day, an armed man opened fire on students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) near Jamia Millia Islamia, injuring a Jamia student.

However, the armed attacker was taken into custody by police soon after the firing incident that occurred when the protesters were marching towards Rajghat to stage a protest against the CAA and NCR.

Clad in a black jacket, the assailant is initially identified as Gopal.

The injured student of the Jamia Millia Islamia’s Mass Communication Department and Research Centre, identified as Shadab Najar, has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The authorities are interrogating the attacker, who before opening the fire had shouted ” Who wants freedom. I will give you freedom”.
