KARACHI: Orphans registered with Alkhidmat commemorated the Iqbal Day at a graceful ceremony in Lyari to mark 144th Birthday of the poet.

The ceremony was held under the aegis of Alkhidmat’s Child and Mother Character Development Program.

The ceremony was aimed at introducing the children to the personality, poetry and the role of Allama Iqbal for establishing Pakistan.

A large number of mothers and other associates of orphan children also participated in the ceremony.

On the occasion, a speech competition was also held. Children overwhelmingly participated in the contest and delivered speeches on several aspects of the life of Allama Iqbal.

At the ceremony, several children performed on the poems written by Dr Allama Iqbal.

Speaking on the occasion, Haroon Rajput — the head of the program — said that Allama Iqbal was a divine poet. A true lover of the Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (S.A.W), Allama Iqbal created awareness and a movement among the Muslims of the subcontinent, he added. The poetry gives a message of courage and enthusiasm to come forward in the struggle for upholding the truth.
