Rs 630.866 mln allocated for sports in PSDP 2016-17

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has allocated Rs 630.866 million for the ongoing and new sports projects in the Public  Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2016-17 to  develop a healthy culture and promote sports activities,

According to the budgetary documents released on Friday, the government has earmarked Rs 520.866 for the ongoing four sports schemes and Rs 110 million for two new schemes.

An amount of Rs 450 million have been reserved for the construction of Sports Complex Narowal, Rs 18.866 million for establishment of bio mechanical lab at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, Rs 50 million for holding of National Games and Rs 2 million for laying of synthetic hockey turf at Gilgit.

An amount of Rs 50 million have been specified for the development of new synthetic hockey turf grounds infrastructure in different cities of the country, while Rs 60 million have been reserved for laying of synthetic hockey turf at Swat.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, who is also Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has recently announced to lay a synthetic hockey field at Swat Hockey Stadium. And allocation of Rs 60 million for this project will help develop the physical infrastructure of hockey in Pakistan.

A spokesman of PHF while commenting on the allocation stated that this would encourage talented players of Swat to take part in the national game with pride and honour.

He said the PHF would also become able to establish training camps for senior, junior and women hockey teams at the venue.
