Imran breaking deal with IMF, laying an atomic bomb for next govt: Miftah Ismail

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that there is no immediate increase in petrol prices and people do not need to fill up their petrol tanks.

Speaking on Geo News show on Monday, Federal Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail said that people do not need to fill up petrol tanks of vehicles. There is no immediate increase in petrol prices, even if the price of petrol goes up on first August there will be many stages, he said.

Miftah Ismail said that if Rs50 is causing loss on petrol then where can I get money? We can’t give subsidy to rich people, no one pays government relief money out of pocket. People have to pay this money. The previous government imposed new taxes of Rs1700 billion.

Miftah Ismail said that no change would be made in any law which would lead to bad relations with the IMF. We will collect more taxes, he said.

The finance minister said that in three to four months we will improve the administration. We will improve the budget deficit which the previous government did.

He said that he had talked to the IMF on time, put forward the problems facing Pakistan. We will work according to the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he said adding the previous government was levying tax on petrol then we said we will not increase the price. The SBP has no plans to reverse the sovereignty bill. We will see if the IMF program is completed by next year.

He further said that Shebaz Sharif will also go home with dignity if the parliament does not trust him and will not violate the constitution.
