KARACHI: The Rashid Minhas road has blocked and turned into a battle ground on Tuesday when clashes erupted between protesters and police during an anti-encroachment operation being launched to raze market and Pavilion End Club adjacent to Aladin Amusement Park.
Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters and also took several people into custody.
At least three people had been injured in the clashes when protesters put up resistance against the operation.
On Monday, the Supreme Court had declared the Pavilion End Club illegal and ordered to demolish it as well as a market established on the land of the amusement park within two days.
The court had ordered that immediate action be taken to end the encroachments with the help of police and Rangers.
The court remarked that the park’s land was illegally converted into commercial land.
