LONDON: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that the government would complete its term and the elections would be held as per schedule in 2018.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with former premier Nawaz Sharif here, the prime minister said that the Speaker’s statement on the assemblies’s fate reflected his personal opinion.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi alongwith Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif arrived here from Turkey, where he attended the emergency summit of the OIC.

Dispelling an impression that there is any threat to the government, Abbasi said the NA Speaker had expressed his views keeping in view the recent developments took place in the country.

Sadiq had talked about the impacts left on the country’s economy and politics by the apex court’s decision but these had been taken out of the context, the premier explained.

Abbasi said that the PML-N would sweep the next general elections to be held in July, 2018.

Sources said that the prime minister held a meeting with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed various matters, including the country’s political situation.
