KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the third unit of Karachi Nuclear Power Plant here on Thursday.
With the commissioning of the third unit (K-3) of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) to be built with the Chinese partnership, the total power generation from the nuclear power plant in Karachi will increase to 2200MW.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister said that China has helped Pakistan in every difficult time. It is an honour for him to inaugurate the K3 project. Pakistan needs cheap energy.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has a capacity of 60,000 megawatts of hydraulic power. Pakistan is exporting petroleum products worth 27 billion dollars for energy. The Karachi Near Clear Power Plant project will help meet the country’s energy needs.
He said that the work on Diamer, Bhasha and Dasu dams is also going on. Under the CPEC project, work is being done on power projects in Pakistan.
