ANKARA: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said that Ankara and Riyadh had a common will to  revive a great economic potential between the two brethren countries.

The Turkish president made these remarks on Saturday after his first trip to Saudi Arabia since 2017.

Erdogan speaking to reporters said the two sides were determined to speed up efforts for stability of the region and common interests.

However, PM office’s statement did not mention a possible currency swap line. It also did not talked about other planned investments that could help relieve Ankara’s economic strains.

Erdogan said that both the countries are agreed to reactivate a great economic potential through organisations, which will bring our investors together.

During his two-day visit, the Turkish president had met Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They discussed, during the meetings, various international, regional and bilateral issues.

Erdogan said that Turkey would support Saudi Arabia in its bid to host EXPO 2030 in Riyadh.

Experts say Saudi funding could help alleviate economic woes of Turkey. The country is facing soaring inflation, ahead of presidential elections next year.

The experts said a swap line could help boost depleted reserves of Turkey.

Earlier in January, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Ankara is open to mending its frayed ties.

The development comes after a reported drop in support from the US for a controversial Mediterranean gas pipeline project.
