NEW DELHI: The Amnesty International (AI) has closed its operations in India over reprisals from the Indian government.

According to the AI, the Modi-led Indian government was running a campaign against the human rights organisations. The bank accounts of the employees of the rights organisations have been freezed by the Indian government. As a result, the operations have been forced to halt after suspending the workers.

The AI director said that the India government was trying to suppress the voices concerning the Delhi riots and the occupied Kashmir.

He said that the human rights organisation was being targeted by the government due to its work. Therefore, the AI is closing its operation in India, he added.

Last month, the Amnesty International in its report claimed that the Delhi police had violated human rights during the riots earlier this year.
