ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has started work to fulfill legal requirements to award contracts to more power distributing companies in Karachi.

Currently, K-Electric is the only power distributing company working in the port city.

In this connection, a public survey will be started in a few days wherein the people of Karachi will be asked if a new licence should be awarded to a new power distribution other than the K-Electric.

Work on conducting the public survey has been commenced.

Sources said that all the procedures for conducting the survey will be set in this week.

They added that the licence of K-Electric might be cancelled in the days to come.

It is to be noted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had earlier ordered the Nepra to take action under its Section 26 against the K-E.

The Section 26 authorises Nepra to cancel its agreement in public interest.
