After Beirut explosion, Karachi administration takes safety measures

KARACHI: After the explosion in ammonium nitrate store in Beirut, the Karachi administration has been alerted on the presence of highly inflammable chemical the city.

The Deputy Commissioners have been directed to collect data on deposits of ammonium nitrate and other hazardous chemicals, issuing a warning.

A few days ago, there were large explosions in Beirut, Lebanon due to ammonium nitrate, in view of which the Karachi administration has taken steps.

The effects of the Beirut blast reached Karachi as precautionery measures are being taken in the port city.

The Commissioner Karachi sought details of the port and industrial areas to be safe from the Beirut-style tragedy.

He also sought details of deposits of ammonium nitrate and other chemicals in ports and industrial areas.

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalawani has sought the above details from the Deputy Commissioners and organizations representing the industrial areas and directed that all the data be provided as soon as possible.
