Lahore:  Traders on Tuesday protested against the government’s decision of closing shops, malls and markets ahead of Eidul Azha.

The Punjab government had issued orders to close all markets and shopping malls across the province under Smart Lockdown from July 28 to August 5.

Rejecting the government’s decision, traders’ organizations had announced to open business from today, after which the markets in the province remained partially open.

In Faisalabad, traders protested against the lockdown at Ghanta Ghar Chowk, during which police and traders came face to face.

Police baton-charged the traders and detained several traders.

Meanwhile, traders in Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Sialkot also took to the streets against the smart lockdown and protested against the Punjab government.

Major bazaars in Lahore remained closed while police patrolled in the markets.
