Petrol price likely to be reduced by Rs10 per litre today

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub on Friday said that the government was collecting Rs47.86 in tax on one litre petrol while Rs51.41 on diesel.

He was giving a response, during the Senate session, to Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed who had asked why the government had been collecting 100 per cent more tax than the purchase price of petrol.

Ayub said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is giving relief to the people, the price of oil in the region is currently the lowest in Pakistan. He added that 17 per cent tax on petroleum products is being charged while Rs9.70 is being charged on the supply. Rs47.86 per liter tax is being collected on petrol while Rs51.41 on diesel.

The federal minister asked If the government does not collect the tax, who will pay for the Senate lights and the salaries of its members.
