Punjab govt starts monitoring sale of dexamethasone after UK approval for Covid-19

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani health experts are considering to use cheap and widely available dexametahasone to treat serious ill Covid-19 patients after the Oxford University had confirmed on Tuesday that the drug could be used to save lives of seriously ill virus patients.

According to the British experts, dexamethasone is a major breakthrough in the treatment of Covid-19.

The low-dose steroid treatment reduces risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators while those on oxygen the drug cuts death by a fifth, the added.

The researchers said that 5,000 lives could had been saved had we used the drug since the onset of the pandemic in the UK.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has begun monitoring the sale of tablets and injections of dexamethasone to prevent its hoarding or profiteering.
