JI demands settlement of financial issues before handing over KE to SE


 KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur- Rehman has demanded of the National Electric Regularity Authority (NEPRA) make sure settlement of all standing financial issues of K-Electric before handing over the company to Shanghai Electric.

In a responding letter to Nepra, he demanded the authority to produce the 10-year balance sheet of K-Electric. Earlier, NEPRA had sent a letter to all stake holders, seeking their approval for sale of the company.

He also demanded of the authority to display the agreement of sale on its website so as to ensure transparency.

He reminded the top officials of NEPRA that the KE management has to pay billion of rupees to Karachiites as per the decisions taken by NEPRA.

He mentioned that the KE has to payback Rs 17 billion to its consumers in Karachi under the head of clawback, Rs 13 billion charged as double bank charges, Rs 11billion under illegal meter rent and Rs 5 billion subsidy which had to be provided to the consumers of KE.

He further noted that dues payable to national institutions and tax authorities are separate from these dues.

The JI leader strictly criticized the KE administration for its inability to mitigate the problems being faced by its consumers due to the company.

He also highlighted the irregularities in the affairs pertaining to the KE. The also highlighted anomalies in the services of KE.

Engr. Naeem concluded that the details of the SE’s business plan for 2017-30 worth $ 9 billion and KE’s Rs498 billion business plan in connection with multiyear tariff tariff (2016-20) and its implementation be disclosed.

He also demanded a firm deadline for the elimination of load shedding and expensive electricity.
